F. Pearl Cantrell
CANTRELL, F. Pearl F. Pearl Cantrell, 85, of Summerville, SC, peacefully went to be with the Lord Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at a hospital in Summerville, SC. Born August 9, 1922 in Chattanooga, TN, she was the eldest of Glen Gladish Gray and Glennie Margaret Atwood Gray’s eight children. She met and married Thomas Jefferson Cantrell. While he was working at a foundry, Pearl went to trade school and learned to weld. It was the beginning of World War II when the federal government notified Pearl her country needed her. She and her husband packed what they could in one steamer trunk and together with their first child rode a Greyhound bus to Charleston. Pearl was a welder at the Charleston Naval Shipyard; Thomas became a marine machinist. Near the end of the War, their son Lionel was born and Pearl did not return to the shipyard. In the mid 1960s Pearl owned and operated TinyTots Daycare Center. She was a member of Ladson Baptist Church and volunteered in the nursery. Pearl enjoyed traveling the US, Canada, the Caribbean and spent a month in Germany living with her son Bruce. Throughout her life, Pearl was a trailblazer but it was her faith and family that were most important to her. She will be deeply missed by her daughter Joyce Roumillat, of Moncks Corner, Lionel B. Cantrell and his wife Jo Ann of Summerville, and Bruce T. Cantrell and his wife Theresa of Raleigh, NC; two brothers: Ernest and Marvin Gray, both of TN; 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren; four step grandchildren and 13 step-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Friday evening, February 1, 2008 turned out to be a beautiful evening at the Summerville Lodge Masonic Hall. On this evening approximatly 40 people gathered to watch the Installation of Officers for Summerville Assembly No. 28 International Order of Rainbow for Girls. Miss Heather S., Grand Worthy Advisor, for Rainbow in South Carolina was Installed as Worthy Advisor for the Assembly for the spring term.
For those of you who do not know much about Rainbow, you can learn alot at the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls web site (http://www.iorg.org/index.html) but in a nut shell:
”Rainbow is a non-profit, service-oriented organization that teaches girls three basic virtues: Faith in a Supreme Being and other people, having Hope in all that they do, and Charity toward others.”
Summerville Assembly has a long history of service to the community in the name of Rainbow and this year is no different. Heather has planned an exciting term and all of her officers are excited about doing new things. Our Mother Advisor, Mrs. Marilyn Lipscomb, continues to be the driving force behind our assembly and ensures that these young ladies have the ability to handle themselves with class and dignity in every situation.
If you know of a young lady between the ages of 11 and 20 won’t you please encourage her learn a little about Rainbow and what it can offer her in her life.
Summerville is also pleased to annouce that it’s Raindrop and Pledge programs are gaining interest. Currently we have pledge meetings on the 3rd thurday of every month before our Rainbow meeting. These beautiful girls are learing at an early age that being a proper lady counts for alot.

If you would like more information send an email to webmaster@summervillelodge.org and we will be happy to help you get started. Once again, congratulations to all of the newly Installed officers of Summerville Assembly No. 28 and Good Luck on a successful term.
